The Club

The UEA Duke of Edinburgh's Award club was set up in 2004 and is a sport's club of the Union of UEA Students and a Award Group, operating under Norfolk County Council's Youth and Community service.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award club at UEA offers training and supports students the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program, whether you have previous completed an award, are currently undertaking an award, or now considering the challenge. The award can be completed at three levels: bronze, silver and gold. Each level has four sections: service, skill, physical recreation and expedition, with an additional requirement at gold level of a residential project.

Membership fees: £5 a year plus the Union will charge a single blanket "Union Sports Association Fee" of £30.00 to join one or more sports clubs. Members can join at SPORTSMART. Or anytime by speaking to the committee. The current committee, who run the group are elected each year just before the Easter holidays.

The aim of this site was to be a "one stop shop" for members and potential members of the UEA Duke of Edinburgh's Award Club, so they could get all the possible information they need regarding the club or the award. If this wasn't possible then links to sources where such information would be available.

The Award

Aim:

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award aims to provide you with an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding program of personal development, which is of the highest quality and the widest reach.

The principles of the Award mean that it is Non-Competitive, Available to all, Voluntary, Flexible, Balanced, Progressive, Achievement Focused, a Marathon not a Sprint, a method of Personal Development and Enjoyable.

How long?

Bronze: At Least 6 months.

Silver: At Least 6 months (or 12 if the participant is a direct entrant).

Gold: At Least 12 months (or 18 if the participant is a direct entrant).

REMEMBER: These are only minimum timescales. You have until your 25th birthday to complete the Award

And what will I do?

There are four sections to the Award:

Service: Where you give up you time voluntarily for others.
Skill
: Where you will gain a new skill or improve on one you already have.
Physical Recreation
: Where you will take part in a form of exercise new to you, or improve in an area you are already active in.
Expedition
: Where you will complete a multi-day expedition in various areas new to you.
And a fifth section for Gold;
Residential Project: Where you will spend 5 days away in a residential setting to complete a pre-determined project.
